CAUSE AND EFFECT v/s KARMA AND PHALAM

I got myself provoked to pen the following, upon going through QUE SERA SERA… without knowing exactly what it means, by the indefatigable Joshi Sir. Before going into any detail on the subject, I must mention that the narration by Sri Joshi at that age and background of suffering unfortunately, of both himself and his wife, was not only heartrending but thought provoking as well to convey a message of courage may be intended, to most young pensioners to face the future bravely, as enunciated by Upanishads. In the present era of craving for comfort zone of living 24/7 from infant to the adequately old, to go through the ordeal at that ripe age, past 80 years and yet be strong with undying hope to inquire to know the outcome in courts and actually, vehemently oppose the stance by a section of the leadership and followers of our pensioner community, is worth emulation by the present generation, young and old.

His delineation of the grim health-situation actually triggers uncontrollable anger on the system we are living-in. Despite sincere and untiring efforts by ageless leadership across the pensioner fraternity in running the much too protracted legal battle in a spirit of sacrifice and devotion to duty, not yielding expected and desired as well as deserved results to scores of octogenarians and septuagenarians, in fact add insult to the injured feelings.

Be that as it may, Sri Joshi’s cause and effect on the lines of the theory of Scientist Einstein the genius of community of science and the gem of materialistic world, if I may be permitted to say so for, who knows what was he actually exploring and what he got, except himself, juxtaposed to YOGAH(equanimity)KARMASU KOUSALAM as an important sentence of Bhagavadgita though outwardly look opposite to the discerning, there is a subtle similarity in the import of both the sentences. Cause is often not known in the material world but the effect has to be felt in the process of incomplete exploration. Prof. Einstein himself, it seems based his causality of Universe on the assumption of existence of space (cause is space and effect is universe) and further was quoted as having said that he could go thus far in exploring the physical world and to go beyond, he needed to understand Upanishads of India, a great compliment on Hindu wisdom, do not know whether our Left friends agree or not. Contemporary scientists disputed this theory of space and adopted interestingly abstract view that nature as the cause of universe without exploring the cause of nature, an unscientific proposition in science parlance also. Cause is mystique in material world while effect is real as rude result of such cause.

Intelligent living which is what Upanishad’s intrinsic message is, to live stress free on effect or result to be confined to divine and Karma as cause (duty expected of him) is done and done well with dexterity without any expectations, to be free from the bondage of knowing but leading to Karma Yoga, a feeling of wellness which is what is YOGAH KARMASU KOUSALAM according to my understanding the learned can differ with me. “ Light has empowered us to experience the world, brought color into existence and above all it is the light within that liberates us “ — Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev.
